Everyone is having a motorbike right? But not everyone follows all the traffic rules and safety protocols. I accept that riding a motorcycle is much fun, happy and easier than driving a car. But it is also the most dangerous one. You have to be more safer and with full presence of mind to avoid something horrible happens. Here, we are going to see about some of the tips for your happy and safer ride.
Traffic rules
Make sure that you are following all the traffic rules such as speed limit, lane instructions, turning instructions etc... If you follow all the traffic signs, your ride will be happy and you can avoid accidents in most of the cases.
Riding gears
If you commute inside a city daily, atleast you must wear your helmet to minimize the injury. If you are doing a highway ride daily, make sure that you wear all your gears such as riding gloves, boots, jacket etc... to minimize the injury to your body incase of any accidents. Wearing jeans just provide the minimal protection. It is advised to buy a set of safety gears at the time of buying your motorbike itself.
Using rearview mirrors
After getting the bike, many of us will remove the rear view mirrors or fold it. Some might reason that the view angle is not good. In that case, you can use aftermarket rear view mirrors which are readily available in the market. But there are some problems like blind spots which can't be avoided. What i suggest is to use your head. Before changing the lane, you have to use rear view mirrors as well as you have to turn and look back to make sure you are clear.
Stay away from rash driving
As a motorbike rider, you should not rash drive on the public roads. If you want to test your skills and push your bike to its limit, you should head for track. Road is not the right place. In public roads, know your speed limit and ride according to that and avoid sudden acceleration which might create problems in controlling and dropping of mileage.
Keep your eyes on the road
If you are cruising on the highway at higher speeds, you have to observe three things. They are road, rearview mirrors and vehicle beyond us. In the movie "The art of racing in the rain", they convey us a message consisting of "car goes where our eyes goes". You have to look after the road. A small pothole can create big accidents or create a problem in the suspension system. When you try to avoid pothole or any other by diverting your bike, your bike starts to wobble or the tyre will slide. So you have to be more careful at these kind of situations.
Using turn signs
Most of the accidents occurs due to changing the lane without properly using the indicators or without using the mirrors. So, try to use rearview mirrors and use turn indicators properly.
Inspecting the motorbike
Regularly you have to check the motorbike for any faults. You have to adjust the free play of levers. Before the ride, check for coolant levels, motor oil level and check for any fluid leaks including brake fluid. Make sure whether all the electrical components and accessories are working fine and good. Also check for the slackness of the chain.
Try not to be a squid
When someone passes you very fast, naturally we also try to go fast or to overtake them. It is good to avoid these kind of habits and ride for you and your safety.
Expect everything
Accident happens unexpectedly. If we expect everything and ride, we can avoid accidents. Imagine you are cruising in a highway at very high speed. What'll happen if someone come across or any obstacle appears. So control your speed and maintain it in the way which you can brake effectively with a good stopping distance.
Maintain distance
Always leave a minimum gap of 10m between you and your vehicle beyond. When the vehicle beyond us brakes suddenly, we need some seconds to acknowledge that braking activity. After knowing, we need to decelerate our bike. If you ride without leaving a safe distance, it might end up in accidents.
