New quarter liter motorbike from Benelli is ready to rock & roll against its rivals
Qianjiang Group-owned Benelli has released a most affordable quarter liter sports motorbike Tornado 252R in its home turf, China few days before. The overall design of the motorbike looks similar to that of its elder sibling 302R. The only change is the addition of a new engine. The motorbike is only introduced to the Chinese market and if converted, the price starts from Rs 2.94 lakh roughly and it stays as a question mark that the product will launch in our country or not. But its elder sibling 302R is near the exit of a corner for our country.
To begin with, the motorbike has got a sleek design in which it makes us to believe that its a big bike. I personally love the design of the fairing. Rear view mirrors are mounted on the fairing itself and a vertical LED along with the twin LED DRLs also looks fresh. It also receives a LED turn indicators. The rear end looks sharp & raised, integrated with the LED tail lamp. All together weighs the motorbike about177kg which is pretty much decent enough for a faired quarter liter sports machine. The fuel tank can hold up to 14 liters and the front fairing is designed with scoops and vents allover it.
Propelling the motorbike is a 249cc, parallel twin, LC, DOHC motor generating about 25.7hp and 24.1Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm & 6,500 rpm respectively. The engine is coupled to a 6 speed transmission system with slipper clutch assist. Center set footpegs along with the lowered clip-ons gives the rider a aggressive riding posture where the rider's seat height is about only 785mm which also perfectly suits for both the short & tall riders. My thought is like why can't the manufacturer provide a single cylinder instead of a twin cylinder setup and tune the motor for extracting more ponies which would've lowered the price & weight even more.
It gets a 37mm USD forks and a monoshock at the rear and it doesn't get a adjustable function like its elder sibling 302R. Braking duties are handed by discs at both the ends aided by a dual channel ABS system. But, we ain't got no info about the braking & suspension hardware. It has also got a LCD digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity along with the USB charging port. Benelli's machines are meant for its notable exhaust sound and due to the parallel twin arrangement, we can also expect a crispy exhaust note from the motor.
