When Royal Enfield unveiled their adventure motorbike named Himalayan in the early 2016, it came with the carb version and had many problems. But, the manufacturer managed to get rid of all the problems by updating their product more and more. Recently, they've launched the model which stands out to be the better one of all time. This Himalayan model gave the toughest competition all these years for its other rivals like G 310 GS, 390 Adventure, Xpulse 200 etc.. Now, new development mule has been spotted testing.
Its very much expected that the next generation off road vehicle will have the parallel twin 650cc motor in it as the same one used in Interceptor and Continental GT. But there's no doubt that, it's not going to happen very soon. In the spy shot, clearly we can able to see the absence of windscreen and the addition of new tank shrouds which also gives the motorbike slightly a new feel and look. The headlamp assembly also slightly looks different than the current one. The handlebar is raised most probably it could be adjustable. I think, this addition of the new tank shrouds is to draw the air and make it to flow by the sparkplug just like Yamaha's YRCS system. Its only my guess.
Though it is believed to be the next version of the Himalayan could be powered by the parallel twin 650cc motor, the spy shots clearly tells us that it is the same motor used in the current version by looks and have the single upright exhaust. The manufacturer recently implemented the new engine in their Meteor models and who knows, there are also chances for the manufacturer to completely redesign the currently used engine by adding some new features to squeeze out more power from the engine.
Another talk which is widely spreading over the internet is that, this development mule spotted testing may be the road version of the Himalayan model ensured by the absence of fork gaiters and windscreen. Though it is the development mule, absence of the above mentioned parameters and the addition of the new tank shrouds gives us the feeling that it should be the road version of the model which may be concentrated more on road and for touring. Maybe windscreen will be offered as a accessory. If this is going to be a road version, surely there are also chances for neglecting the long travel suspension and several other features which is meant for off-roading.
