A Bengaluru based EV manufacturer Ather Energy has announced that their fast charging connector is now open for the other manufacturer's vehicles which is very much welcomed. As we all know, Ather's 450 and 450X are the electric scooters which supports fast charging system in our country. Its very much good to hear that the manufacturer has opened up its tech to the other OEMs. They've also mentioned that their 200+ fast charging networks throughout our country will also allows other EVs for charging purposes.
In electric cars, mostly, standard charging connectors are used which is a big advantage. But in the case of electric motorbikes, its not like that. Every manufacturer provides a unique connector design. This big move done by the Ather dumps the range anxiety and decrease the need for the development of more charging infrastructures. Imagine that your EV can be charged only at your home or otherwise in the manufacturer's authorized charging stations. Now, due to this move, the connector will become similar in which the other EV manufacturers can adopt to that design.
The aim is to design and implement a single charging port and connector among all the EVs like all our mobile phones with type c or micro USB ports. Many governments talked about this implementation but now, Ather has made one step forward. This universal charging connector and socket not only going to help in the development of less number of charging infrastructures but also going to help the manufacturer in saving much money. As we all know, EV is blooming up more in our country recently. Though we have some EVs in our market already like Ather, Chetak, Revolt, Ampere, Evtric etc... upcoming EVs will benefit from this.
The charging connector is going to feature a both AC & DC charging. We can think why Ather is doing this. By doing this, they're not going to make any profit as they are not collecting any fees. By doing this, really they're not only going to share its charging connectors, but to work with the other manufacturers for developing more. Only in major cities across the country, charging stations are present as far now. If this is going to be implemented soon and if the charging stations are going to show up all over the states, surely everyone jumps to EVs as the only barrier stands in between them is the range of coverage.
