In the process of expanding up the sales and marketing, Yamaha has now trademarked a new model R2 earlier this week including R7 and R9 which has been registered in the international markets like Australia, Philippines etc.. This R2 will be a 200cc motorbike and other R series lines up from R15, R3, R6, R7 and the R1. Few days before, a spy shot of the development mule which looks similar to the R15 V3 has become viral throughout the internet. Several talks were also raised that it could be the new R25 or the next generation R3. Under the heavy camouflage, we just can't say this is a R15 V4. As the name trademarked, the test mules also could be a R2. Who knows....
In the spy shots, we could able to see the conventional dual headlamp setup has been replaced by the R7 like front end with the integrated DRLs and the rear end of the motorbike looks similar to the current R15 V3. The test mule spotted also have the USDs at the front. Regarding this, in previous posts about the development mules, I've mentioned that there are more chances for the manufacturer to introduce the version 4 of the R15 to hold its position as the best affordable entry level sports machine in our country. But this trademark of the name R2 makes us curious and as well as confused that what it could be. Whether it is going to be the next generation R15 or R2 or next generation R3 or R25.
If Yamaha is building a 200cc motorbike, the engine is to be built from the scratch and possibly there are chances in which the engine is already built and tested which we've seen in the form of development mules. As the name registered, the engine could be already built. If it is going to be a R25, FZ25's engine will be borrowed. Like the version 3, the upcoming model will also get a VVA system in it as expected. We also have to know about the several things. Registering the name doesn't mean that the manufacturer have to launch the product. They could also register the names to safeguard it for the future usage.
