• After a long wait, Triumph has finally unveiled the new Tiger 1200 range globally. The manufacturer has focused the bike both for smooth tarmac and rough terrains. It is none other than the GT range and Rally range. There's also a explorer variant for both the trims. So, totally there are five outputs such as GT, GT Pro, GT Explorer, Rally Pro and Rally Explorer.
• Motorbike's heart of the matter is completely overhauled. It is a 1160cc, inline 3 cylinder, LC, 4V/C, DOHC motor which produces about 150PS & 130Nm of peak power & torque at 9,000 & 7,000rpm respectively. Comparing it to the older version, cylinder's capacity have been decreased but also there's a bump in power & torque parameters.
• With the help of T-Plane crank's uneven firing intervals, the motor is tweaked for improving the tractability at lower RPM bands and the overall performance at the mid-range is improved by 10%. Engine is slightly moved forward on the chassis making the bike nimble and this became possible with the help of split radiator design.
• Power from the engine flows to the rear wheel via a 6 speed transmission system and shaft drive. Yes... This ADV uses a shaft drive which makes it unique among others. The shaft is 1.5kg lighter and so the chassis which is 5.4 lighter than the previous model. Speaking about the chassis, it is a new tubular steel unit hooked up with tri-link swingarm instead of a single sided unit.
• Gas tanks are now made of aluminum and the bike maker has mentioned that their primary target is to shed more weight as it is 25kg lighter compared to its predecessor. GT trim rolls on 19"/18" cast wheels where the Rally trim uses 21"/18" wired spoke rims. In all the variants, suspension duties are handled by 49mm USD forks at the front and monoshock with electronic preload adjustment. Both of them are from Showa and the suspension travel length varies on both the models. (Front/rear - 200mm for GT trim and 220mm for the rally variant).
• Braking duties are handled by 320mm twin disc with radially mounted Brembo calipers at the front with radial master cylinder and single 282mm disc rotor with single piston caliper at the rear. Handlebar is 20mm wider and 16mm higher in the explorer variant. New 7" TFT instrument console sits behind the windscreen with connectivity feature including audio and GoPro control.
• Traction Control system and cornering ABS are standard where models from the GT Pro gets bi-directional quickshifter, hill hold, cruise control and heated grips. Basic GT gets 3 riding modes and the Rally trims gets 6 riding modes. Rest of them is integrated with 5 riding modes. Coming to the Explorer variant, basically it's a GT Pro and Rally Pro with 30L fuel tanks instead of 20L on the standard one. It also gets heated rider and pillion seat, tyre pressure monitoring system, blind spot detection radar with lane change assist and engine protection bars.
• Other than that, every model gets a keyless start system and the bike maker offers over 50 accessories. With it's new updates, this new Tiger 1200 stands down as a perfect competitor against it's rival BMW 1250 GS. We can expect the bike maker to introduce this model in India sometime by next year with a aggressive price tag.
