Uneven crank angle & firing order helps the motor to produce decent amount of low end grunt
T-plane crank. What's this all about??
These type of crank angle can be seen on the traditional 3 cylinder engine. Generally in a total 360deg, crankpins are set at equal 120deg thereby giving a firing interval of 240deg. In a 4 stroke cycle, crank revolves 720deg to complete a single cycle thereby summing it up to 720deg. Instead of crankpins at equal 120deg, Triumph's T-plane crank angle have 1st and 3rd crankpins at 180deg apart where the second crankpin is 90deg from the other two crankpins forming a "T" arrangement. So, the firing order becomes 1,3,2 and the intervals become 180, 270 and 270 resulting in a total of 720. This results in a uneven delivery with short gaps for the first 2 firing pulse and a long gap before the 3rd pulse happens. This arrangement first appeared on the Tiger 900, and its time for the big boy to accommodate these update.

Upcoming Tiger 1200
This is the motorbike which Triumph has implemented the T-plane crank arrangement and the motorbike is yet to be launched. The output power is expected to lie somewhere around 130bhp and the power from the motor is transferred to the rear wheels via shaft drive which makes the motorbike odd. Though the performance & other hardware updates are not yet confirmed, visually we can able to see some changes. New suspension units at both the front & rear along with the redesigned swingarm & bevel box also comes as part of the plan. It also appears to have 21"/18" spoke wheel units at the front & rear respectively. Spoke wheels tends to have more advantage for off-roading motorbikes than that of the alloy wheels.
