UPGRADE AFTER A DECADE
Its one of the few motorcycles which got resurrected and being enjoyed by the fan boys & customers which is none other than the 200cc bonkers from Bajaj Auto. The same thing happened to the Pulsar 220F. Launched back in the year 2012, 200NS is the one of the best selling model for the manufacturer in which they developed the machine in partnership with the KTM.
A decade have passed. Other than the addition of Electronic Fuel Injection system, NS200 have never seen any major update. We all know that the Bajaj Auto is very well known for hearing customer feedbacks and act according to their needs. We can able to see this implementation on Dominar400's new version where the additional touring kits are now factory fitted.
Now they turned their head towards the best sold model of the past decade and updated it by hearing our voices. Its not only a matter of adding new hardware to the existing model but making it something more reliable and affordable. In this short article, let's see what are all the changes made and my opinion on it.
First change anyone can notice is the front forks. Conventional telescopic shocks have been replaced with the inverted forks. Surely some work must be done on the cone set to accomodate the redesigned triple tree. I own a 2017 carbureted 200NS. After achieving a speed of above 125, I experienced some minor tank slapper. It increased as the speed increases and its not only me who faced this problem. Another thing is when I enter a corner or when I lean the bike on the corner, I will be little tensed because the front end feel I receive will not be good. By the implementation of this inverted forks, I guess the front forks will be stiff and gives the rider a good feedback.
Other than the cosmetic updates, first time Bajaj have done something to the hardware side. Now it borrows the braking hardware from its elder 250 and instead of Bybre calipers, it now gets the Grimeca calipers. Yeah... Dual channel ABS function. But we should be very careful in case of the battery as some changes must be done to the ABS motor. Addition of twin channel ensures the rider's safety and its really a good move.
Its really a good thing that they've not replaced the existing semi digital instrument console. I really love to see the tacho needle just hitting the red line. God.. They've not replaced it with the fully digital one. But there are some changes. Gear position indicator and distance to empty are newly added as everyone yelled about it. But its really not needed as many of the peep are also not needed it just like me and that's why I always keep saying that the Bajaj Auto is well known for hearing customer's voice. If they wanted, they could've added it long back. But they didn't.
Anyways. A good and a much needed upgrade is given by the manufacturer after a decade. I think we can retrofit the USD forks to the old models and will update the same in my first ride impression. So, Stay tuned.....
