If we travel back a decade, Hero Motocorp dominated the sport commuter segment in our country and also they're known for experimenting with different products. Like every other 90s kids, I also loved the Karizma series and a big fan of the 2014 ZMR. Though the bike looked odd, It pulled my attention towards for the same reason. But unfortunately, Hero Motocorp pulled its plug off it due to its poor sales factor as we all know. I remember the good old days of watching the ZMR TV commercial where a guy drives the white colored ZMR on the ice to see the northern or Aurora lights. The best days of my life.
Now, 10 years later, hero have revived the Karizma series but this time not ZMR not R but XMR. In this short article let's see my opinion on the new 200cc bonker. The old bulkiness is gone and new sleeky lines are integrated all over the motorcycle to attract more hipsters. The first thing which grabbed my attention is the headlamp of the motorbike. Its on the slight awkward side and I don't know why manufacturers are going towards boomerang type. Anyways, the machine is slightly bulky compared to the R15s and other Pulsars.
Coming to the heart of the matter, Its a new 210cc liquid cooled DOHC 4V motor packed inside a steel trellis frame. Yeah, its a high revving engine, spitting out 25.5PS & 20.4Nm of power & torque at 9250 & 7250rpms respectively. Its not enough to say anything about the engine without mentioning about the tuning of it which can be experienced only by riding it. The engine is mated to a 6 speed transmission system with the help of slipper clutch which is a added advantage.
The frame is suspended on telescopic forks at front and gas charged mono at rear. Yeah... You heard. Everyone is yelling about USDs and aluminum swingarm. Though the machine is committed towards city commuting and highway cruising, this setup is a bliss. Maybe we can see all the performance packed quirks in the upcoming R version.
Petal discs on both ends kissing the Bybre calipers along with dual channel ABS system. What do you want more??? 100 & 140 section MRF rubbers are responsible for the torque reaching the road. Talking about the riding posture, clipons are on the higher side. Like RCs and R15s, you may not need more engaged riding posture. You can sit upright and enjoy riding the motorbike.
In terms of styling, to attract more young customers, Hero really made a good step. But I can't agree with the pillion seat part. It'll be a real pain for your butt. When I came to know about the revival of Karizma series last year, I really thought It'll be a tribute to the old Karizma and treat to all Karizma lovers. But by seeing the number of test mules few months back, everything broken apart and Hero really made a good move to catch that old place. But let's hope something they'll do for the old Karizma lovers.
And, the motorbike is all new. New engine, new transmission system, new frame bla bla bla. Like the sales factor, service is also one of the important part of sustaining in the market. I hope the service technicians and mechanics are given a proper training to play with the bike. Another thing I heard is about the placement of ECU. Its near the rear shock. The possibility for getting damage is very high. It'll affect the whole wiring. Its electronics man....
Let's hope for them to replace it in the upcoming MY. Its time to see the performance of the new Karizma in our market.
