Engine oil additive

As we know clearly that the engine oil plays an important role of maintaining the engine's life and determining various factors like performance, fuel consumption, engine heat, noise. Everything depends on this quality and quantity of the engine oil. One should use right quality of engine oil to achieve the above mentioned parameters. According to me, i see this motor oil additives as two types. First type is, the oil additive which comes with the power pack kit for specific motorbikes. Those power pack will be consisting of motor oil, motor oil additive, flush oil and fuel additive. When it's time to change the motor oil, old motor oil should be flushed out first. After that, new motor oil can be filled along with the oil additive. After that, fuel additive will be added for the given tank capacity. As it is called by the name performance pack, manufacturers of these additives and motor oils claims that the fuel efficiency and performance of the motorbike increases drastically. In second type, the oil additives are sold separately. You can buy and add with your motorbike's engine oil. The thing here is, the purpose and the advantages remains constant.

After adding this oil additive, the base or primary motor oil will do its job of lubrication, cooling and cleaning where this additive gives extra protection to the engine by neglecting the problem of engine oil losing its properties under extreme temperature. Simply saying, engine oil do its job and this additive protects the engine oil.

In this second type, here also the additive should be added with the engine oil when it is fresh. We should not add this additive after riding several kilometers with new engine oil. After putting new engine oil, this additive should be added at least before 50-100 kilometers. It forms a separate layer within the engine. Manufacturers are suggesting that, after installing this oil additive, the vehicle should run at least around 400 kilometers for the layer formation. If you change the engine oil after adding the additive within the mentioned kilometers, the additive will also comes out with the engine oil without forming a layer which becomes totally waste.

Before adding the oil additive, you have to preheat the engine for several minutes for example allowing it to idle for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, you can add the additive with your engine oil. After adding it, you have to drive your motorbike at least for several kilometers to make sure that the additive is well mixed with the engine oil. Or, you can let your engine to idle for 10-15 minutes. In case of idling, slightly rev the motor some time for the good mixing of additive with the engine oil. You can be able to see the changes and experience its advantages after riding for several kilometers as said previously that is after 400 kilometers. Manufacturers are saying that, after adding the engine additive once, it'll do its job up to 30,000 kilometers.

Pros
• This oil additive acts as an additional layer to the engine oil preventing the degradation of engine oil due to excessive heat.
• If the viscosity of the oil becomes too low due to variation in temperature, it'll flow easily where it'll not stick in between parts to do its job. If the viscosity becomes high, it flow will be too bad. To maintain viscosity in all engine running temperatures, this oil additive will be helpful.
• Normally, sludge will be formed inside the engine and deposits in various spots which creates us problem. Detergents present in the oil additives will be helpful in clearing those sludgy substances.

Cons
• Increases overall service and maintaining cost.
• Sometimes, sulphur additives will damage the catalytic converter.
• Many companies are available in the market with very low prices which confuses us. If you have decided to use oil additive in your motorbike, you have to research about it thoroughly and have some amount of knowledge on what you're going to mix with your motorbike's engine oil.
