When you leave your motorbike for general service in showroom or in authorized service center, they'll go through several things in your bike and rectify the complaints. Let's see what are all the parameters they'll go through and what they do with our bike in general service.
Cleaning
First thing what they'll do is water wash your bike cleanly. Then only they can see the damages. If there's any leak, it'll be visible only if the bike is clean without any mud or dust. After water washing they'll park your bike in the ramp and lift it up.
Oil care and air filter
After lifting up in the ramp, oil drain bolt is removed and old motor oil is drained from the engine. At the same time, old oil filter is also removed. After that seats, side panels, fuel tank is removed. Old air filter will be inspected. Condition of the filter plays an important role. It'll be replaced by the new one if necessary. Finally, new oil is filled in the engine suggested by the manufacturer.
Rear end
Rear wheel of the motorbike is taken out. After that, wheel bearing will be inspected. If there's any shake in the bearing, it'll be rectified. If crush rubbers are in bad condition or damaged, it'll be replaced with a new one. If it is a rear drum brake vehicle, linings in the wheel drum will be cleaned with the help of emery sheet. After that, rear brake shoes will be inspected. It is also cleaned with emery sheet or replaced if necessary. If it is a disc brake vehicle, brake pads are inspected. Quality and quantity of the brake fluid is inspected and replaced if necessary and bleeding of brakes will be done. Mainly they'll check for brake fluid leak. After inspecting all these parameters, wheel will be fixed back in the bike. Finally, slackness of the chain will be adjusted and also the free play of rear brake pedal.
Front end
The same procedures followed for the rear brake is also followed for the front. In addition to that, they'll inspect the speedometer's worm gear. Old grease will be removed and cleaned perfectly. While assembling, new grease will be applied. If it has a wheel speed sensor, mud and dust will be cleaned. Front forks and its seal will be inspected. If they suspect any oil leak, the problem will be rectified by changing the oil seal. After that cone set will be inspected. What they'll do is, after parking our bike using straight stand, if the hand bar is kept straight, it should turn either one side. If don't, the entire fork assembly will be removed and the cone set will be inspected.
Electricals
As we know, firstly, battery recharge voltage will be checked. If the system is not working properly, all the parameters related to that will be checked. After that, all the switches will be checked. All the lightning accessories and others like horn, instrument cluster lights will be inspected. All the sockets will be inspected for any loose connections.
On Board Diagnostics
All fuel injected bikes comes with OBD scanning port. With the help of OBD tool or diagnostic software, the ECU will be diagnosed and scanned for any error codes. If there's any error codes, it'll be rectified and fault history & memory of that error will be cleared.
Fuel system
If carbureted engine, carburetor is fully dismantled and cleaned. The jets will be removed and cleaned with air pressure. Float chamber will be cleaned. If it is a CV carburetor, diaphragm will be inspected compulsory. Because, if there's any hole in it, there'll be loss in pickup of the bike. If it is a fuel injected engine, throttle body assembly will be dismantled, cleaned and inspected. Fuel injector will be checked for its performance and cleaned. After that, fuel pump's pressure will be tested. The petrol tap will be cleaned and also the fuel filter. After that, accelerator cable will be inspected and lubricated.
Clutch
Clutch case is removed and clutch pack is taken out. We know that when the clutch plates are gone, engine's power & fuel will be wasted and engine will heat unnecessarily. So clutch is one of the most important parameter. If the plates are in really bad condition, it'll be replaced by the new one. Clutch lever's play will be adjusted grease will be applied.
Engine
Other than customer complaints, engine will be inspected normally. They'll check whether the timing is properly kept. Engine work include checking and adjusting tappet clearance, applying grease, replacing oil seals, checking for valve bend, engine compression, coil assembly health, checking for rust in magnet assembly etc.. Sparkplug is also inspected and also plug gap. After reassembling all the components, parameters like throttle response, clutch play, engine noise will be checked and changes will be made if necessary.
Sprocket
Gearbox sprocket and rear sprocket will be inspected. If the sprocket is gone, there'll be slip and loss in power. Gear box sprocket's oil seal will be inspected. After inspecting, chain will be lubricated.
