Today, we're going to see something about the unwanted modifications that peoples do in their motorbikes. Here i'll write in my perspective. I hope after going through this content, you'll get a clear view.
Visors
You can see most of the bikes have short visors. Bikes in the category of 200-300CC also comes with pre installed short visors. But peoples are going for aftermarket visors. You can see many of them install a visor of Yamaha's Fazer in a NS and some other bikes like Duke. Installing a visor like this may increase aesthetics. But it totally collapses the aerodynamics of the bike. The wind should flow above your helmet. If the visor is fitted in such a way like without proper mountings and without proper angle, you may have to face heavy windblast and this will reduce the stability of the vehicle.
Double bubble windscreen
You can see these type of visors mostly in R15s and in gixxers or in any other faired motorbikes. These windscreen have proper mounting unlike normal visor. But these kind of windscreens will be very much helpful in your track when you're in a full tuck position and ripping your bike. But not every one visits track. You are going to ride in the city road at the minimal speed of 40-60 kmph which makes it worthless. It may increase the aesthetics of the bike but not going to help you in increasing the performance.
Aftermarket exhaust
There's nothing much to tell about it. Government already listed out many new rules and regulations. Even though, many of them are replacing their stock muffler, header, end pipe with a aftermarket. These type of exhaust makes very high sound. Only for race purposes only, these kind of aftermarket free flow exhaust with a proper certifications will be helpful in increasing the performance of the vehicle. For road use, its totally worthless and bring you many problems.
Wider tires
Many peoples do this mistake of installing a wider tires for normal road usage. By changing the tire, the dynamics of the vehicle will change totally. Manufacturers are designing a tire by considering many parameters like total weight, engine power, forces acting on the vehicle at different conditions etc.. Just like that if you change the tire, everything will change. You might not get a proper mileage or face discomfort and it cause unstability.
Wrapping
It is the easiest way to modify your bike. It don't require any mechanical change. Have you ever seen a sparco sticker in a motorbike? Commonly, tuners stickers their vehicle with the manufacturers name which they used for tuning their vehicle. But in the name of wrapping, adding a name like that without relation makes no sense. But you can wrap with a color. But the wrap color should match with the color mentioned in the registration certificate. If the color is same or similar to that, cops won't bother about it. But you have to make a change in registration certificate and have to take a trip to RTO if you repaint with other color or wrap it with other color.
Flush mount indicators
Every owner of a faired motorbike is switching to this flush mount indicators these days. According to me, its just a useless product. It questions our safety. Why indicators are used? To signal or warn others if we are going to take a turn or about to change the lane.. right? But in daytime itself, we can't see that light from those indicators. A proper indicator have to signal in the front side of the bike. Not in the side directions.
Tail tidy
Tail tidies are used in race oriented bikes. It just lifts up the number plate and rear indicators. In most of the off-road bikes, we can see these kind of short tail tidies. In off-road bikes, the rear wheel have to travel a lot when we jump, slide, land. We have to give space for the wheel to travel. So there'll be short rear fender or tail tidy. But peoples installs it in all bikes without necessary. It just improve the looks of the bike.
Fog light setup and other lightning accessories
According to RTO, fog lights can be fitted below the head light. It should consume low power or equal to the power that headlamp consumes. Fog lamps should emit only yellow beam because they scatter less. But here, the situation is totally different. Here we are installing fog lamps mainly due to weak headlight beam. At the same time, they emit bright white beam. I've seen many where they install it near the handlebars. Fog lamps can be installed if we have purpose and have to use it in a right way.
Warning tags
Warning tags are used in bikes without rear reflector. The purpose of this tags is to reflect the light and warn other drivers. These tags can be used in bikes without rear tail or fender or without rear reflector. But nowadays we can see most of the bikes are fitted with these tags near the number plate which is unnecessary and useless.
