Yamaha recently trademarked a name R15M few days before as we all know. In that documents, two model's name were printed that is R15 and R15M. We all were in a thought like why Yamaha is not bringing the R15 just like the international variant to our country. Now, the Japanese manufacturer has gone one step forward decided to provide us a R15M. M tag from the Yamaha provides a range of performance oriented motorbikes. Yesterday, some of the images were leaked. In this article, let's discuss about the leaked images and my opinion about it.
Those who have followed my posts regularly know that the past week is filled more with the info about this new upcoming machine. When this motorbike is spied testing, everyone thought its going to be the next generation of the R15. Many stated that the spied mule is a R2 and some others stated that its a next gen R3. But, the manufacturer surprised us by giving the M variant of the R15. Comparing it to the international spec variant, this one looks better. I heard that the manufacturer is going to release the new version of the R15V3 and this R15M at the same time which is going to happen very soon.
Now, let's dive into the leaked pictures. The new variants of the R15 started to hit the authorized showrooms in our country. First thing which grabs our attention is the front end of the motorbike. It gets a R7 inspired headlamp which means, dual pod LED setup is replaced with a single projector setup just like the MT-15. Yamaha has well known how to utilize the projector setup from the MT-15 in all other models. The LED DRLs also looks sharp and gives the motorbike a even more aggressive look compared to the V3. The body panels are also redesigned.
For me, it looks like the color pattern is inspired from the R1M. Grey and black finish along with the blue colored rims remembers me the R1M. The rear end seems to continue the same as the V3. The redesigned front wind visor and the body panels differentiate the motorbike from the V3. The exhaust also looks similar to the V3 for me. But, due to the new color scheme, exhaust's shield now gets a color which matches the overall color scheme of the vehicle. MotoGP edition is also a part of the plan as we saw that in the previous posts.
Mechanical changes includes the addition of the USD forks at the front. Though we don't have info about the forks, surely its going to improve the feel and feedback of the motorbike. The USD also receives a golden treatment. Other than that, it'll get a Bluetooth connectivity feature for calls and navigation in both the upcoming models as everyone expected. This concludes that the motorbike will also get a new revised instrument console. But, as mentioned in the paper works, this motorbike has got the same 155cc VVA motor, but the power has dropped by 0.1kW. But, this doesn't going to affect the overall performance of the vehicle I guess.
My opinion
This new model is very much welcomed including me. But, one thing hits me very hard regarding the motorbike. As we all know, M tag represents the performance oriented motorbikes from the manufacturer. As the R15 now gets the M treatment, I expected even more power output for squeezing out more ponies from the engine. Instead, it has got a redesigned front end, fairings and a USD. This is well and good but I expected more power output as the motorbike comes under a M tag. Who knows.... Manufacturer may also surprise us by revealing more details at the time of the launch. I'd like to thank the source RevNitro for giving us the glimpse of this upcoming machine.
