Along with the R15 twins, the Japanese manufacturer also managed to expand its portfolio with the maxi sports scooter.
Yamaha has announced the launch of new Aerox 155, a sport styled maxi scooter to increase even more heat on the growing maxi segment in our country. The scooter is offered in single variant and available at 2 color schemes along with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition. Racing blue and grey vermillion starts from Rs 1,29,000 and the MotoGp edition from Rs 1,30,500 ex-showroom Delhi.
First thing which attracted me more is the design element of the scooter. It looks different than that of the any other scooter in our country with its sharp looking design elements. Front end is fabricated aggressively with the symmetrical looking LED headlamp along with the LED position lights. Rear end also gets a LED but the turn winkers are all halogen. It doesn't get a flat floorboard just like the conventional scooter. There's a hump and the single piece seat gets a step-up design.
Bodyworks also looks minimal with the Aerox badging. Graphics on the scooter looks simple & decent enough. Muffler looks like a one which is equipped on a big motorbike and extends all the way up to the rear. Fuel tank capacity is 5.5L and the under seat storage comes with 24.5L. The seat height is about 790mm which will be perfect for riders at all height. Fuel cap is also present at the hump near the floor board.
Powering the scooter is a 155cc, LC, SOHC, VVA motor capable of putting out 15.0PS at 8,000rpm and 13.9Nm at 6,500rpm respectively. Yes...It is the same motor as the R15 and the radiator assembly is present at the right side right below the pillion's footrest. Like every other scooter, it gets a CVT transmission system. It is equipped with telescopic forks and twin struts at the front & rear respectively. Anchoring jobs are done by the 230mm disc and 130mm drum setup at the front & rear respectively assisted by a single channel ABS.
Like the Fascino 125, it gets a Smart Motor Generator system which is also referred as silent start system. But, it misses out the mild hybrid system which the RayZR recently obtained. Other than that, it is equipped with automatic start stop system and a front pocket with USB charging socket. Side stand engine cut-off feature is equipped for safety purpose. LCD dash comes as part of the plan with connectivity features through the Y connect app. It is equipped with the 14" wheels at both the ends and a wide 140 section tyre at the rear.
The scooter is filled with good techs & specs I'd say and also priced at a decent range. Due to the higher capacity engine with a liquid cooling system, this scooter can do long distance highway rides as well as suits for daily city commuting. The scooter also just weighs 126kg which suits for riders at all category. But the matter of floorboard worries me much as it stays as a question mark for the family use.
