Bajaj Twinner... What's this all about?

As we all know, Bajaj has applied for a trademark "Twinner" last year and now it has been accepted which makes us believe that the Bajaj Auto is working on some twin cylinder motor. According to the multiple sources, the name can be used for either two or three wheelers. But the manufacturer's partnership with other companies hints the two wheeler and in this article, let's discuss some of the possibilities of the upcoming product.

Bajaj Auto has partnered with the Austrian bike maker KTM a decade ago and succeeded in achieving their goals. As a result of partnership, Bajaj Auto introduced some interesting products like Pulsar NS200, RS200 and Dominar 400 which also received a great response. We also got to know about the Austrian brand is developing a new segment few months back and about the newly developing platform.

It comes under a middle weight segment i.e 500cc which the bike maker could spawn the existing models like Duke, RC and Adventure. The motor is expected to incorporate a parallel twin setup and to spit out more ponies than any other models in the segment. As per my guess, KTM will introduce this new platform in the second half of 2022 to compete against its rivals such as 502C and other RE models.

So, one can expect the Bajaj Auto to introduce a motorcycle with the newly developed twin cylinder engine. Now the question is what it could be? A Dominar 500 or a Pulsar 500. If it's going to be a pulsar, I wish them to give the bike a original Pulsar treatment, staying true to the original Pulsar design elements. It's also okay if they give a tribute like thing to the game changer 220F. But the possibilities are very less and I think the manufacturer will upgrade the existing Dominar using this new platform even it's too early to speculate anything.

On the other hand, the relationship between the British bike maker Triumph and Bajaj Auto also hits the name Twinner hard, as they're also developing models in 200 - 700cc range. First product of the hookup between the two companies is expected to be launched by this year but due to some reasons, it has been postponed to 2023. Ongoing pandemic situation is the main reason and previously we came to know about the ongoing project in which the prototypes were already created.

The main motto of this partnership is to design & develop midrange capacity motorcycles by Triumph Motorcycles in UK and to manufacture under the roof of Bajaj Auto's plant. As a result of this partnership, we can expect a smaller displacement Trident and some parallel twin cruisers too. As per the name Twinner, it could also be a product of this partnership and if so, the launch of the model is very far away. Let's wait & watch... What the Bajaj Auto is cooking under the roof for us...
