As we all know, Royal Enfield has listed a number of motorcycles for the launch which includes the Super Meteor, Shotgun and Hunter. We also came to know that the bike maker is working on a 650cc adventure motorcycle few months back. But the launch event of the same is very far away. Now, the BikeWale team has managed to give us the glimpse of the hardcore version of the existing Himalayan.
According to the source, the bike maker has developed a new platform codenamed as K1 and the very first bike that's gonna come under this platform is a adventure bike and it is expected to be called as the Himalayan 450. Single cylinder, liquid cooled motor will power the motorbike and the motor is capable of producing about 40bhp.
As per the source, the motor can produce up to 45bhp but the bike maker is focusing more on low and mid range which is essential for adventure motorcycles. It's too early to speculate anything but I think it'll get a reworked motor of the existing Himalayan by adding a bigger bore kit and altering the cooling system. But one thing bothers me very much which is none other than the radiator. The heat exchanger of the motorcycle should be placed in such a way it shouldn't affect the front suspension travel. The motor is expected to be paired to a 6 speed transmission system in which the ratios will suit for both freeway cruising and off-roading.
Speaking about the suspension, clearly we can able to see the Upside Down Forks at the front and linkage type monoshock at the rear. But the rear monoshock's angle questions the comfort and capability of the motorcycle. As we all know, capacity of the engine always doesn't matter where the art of tuning it matters. Royal Enfield just makes us wait eagerly for the launch of their new models by providing new parameters which we didn't seen before on any other RE motorcycles.
Coming to the design, it slightly remembers me the DesertX and some of the elements such as the circular headlamp unit and the sub-frame connecting the headlamp to the fuel tank stays true to the existing Himalayan 411. Rear quarter panel looks fresh and so the luggage panniers. Single piece seat looks purposeful and the exhaust setup is more upswept, matching the nature of the motorbike. If we take a closer look, there's a heavy bash plate under the engine which is also essential and there's also a high set front fender. Overall, the motorbike looks Dakar styled and the instrument cluster is placed behind the tall windscreen.
The motor is stuffed inside a trellis frame and the amount of ground clearance also looks decent. Wired spoke rims are wrapped with the multipurpose block pattern rubbers and the footpegs are positioned in the center. Raised handle setup along with the footpeg position gives the rider a upright riding posture. As per the source, there'll be multiple variants of this motorbike and the testing of the motorbike is yet to commence. Once the testing of the prototype begins, we can able to get more details on the powertrain and chassis components.
We can expect this model to make its presence by the first half of 2023 and we can't able to guess the pricing of the motorbike at this point. As the ADV segment is blooming up more and more recently in the country, this upcoming Himalayan will rival the other models such as the 390 Adventure.
