As the manufacturer is celebrating its 75 years of the iconic scooter named Vespa, it is mentioned that the motorcycles about 300cc range is under development by its Aprilia's brand which is to feed the both domestic and international markets. Before making any major investments in the upcoming years, the group will strengthen its position here in our country. As we know, Piaggio not only sells scooters, but also provides commercial vehicles to our markets. The manufacturer has invested more in transforming from BS-IV to BS-VI few years before. It is also mentioned that they'll invest but not so high as done in the past three years.
Its the reason for them to mention that "strengthen the position before investing more further". The above mentioned details were said by the managing director and chairman of Piaggio India, Diego Graffi when he's asked about the company's plans for the next 5 years. He also mentioned that the company has invested about Rs 350 crore in the past 3 years at our markets. With the release of their new product, they're expecting to sell about 1.5 - 2 lakh units annually as the company sees huge potential for growth in the two wheeler market.
He mentioned that the motorbike under Piaggio India is also a part of the plan and also it is under the development. The motorbike will be in a 300cc range and also it is mentioned that the motorbike will come under the Aprilia brand. As mentioned before, the motorbike will hit the both domestic and international markets in about 2-3 years. Also he mentioned that, with their supply chain and the current level of technology, our country is also capable of manufacturing and exporting a motorbike which can compete with the other European manufacturers.
As the demand for the cargo vehicles has raised to 90% like before the pandemic situation, it'll take about 12 months for this demand to become normal if there's no further lockdowns due to the third wave of the pandemic situation. Recently they've launched a new powertrain in the same 300cc segment for the both petrol and CNG. In addition to that, they'll continue to offer their scooter Vespa as well as motorbikes under Aprilia's branding. The manufacturer is also developing its own powertrain for the electric scooters where it'll take about 3 years for the launch as the powertrain is under development where the battery technology will not be borrowed from China.
