Aprilia has updated its lineups by launching the 4 new motorbikes. As everyone expected, 4 models includes RS V4 & 660 and Tuono V4 & 660. All the 4 models now comes under BS-VI emission norms. Let's see something about the all 4 models which made its debut today.
RS 660
As we all know, this motorbike is a iterated version of its big brother RSV4 and this motorbike comes under the middle weight segment. To begin with, it gets a race style fairings with aprilia badging. It gets a dual pod LED headlamp assembly with integrated DRLs & turn indicators and a taller wind visor. The beefy fuel tank and the sleek front fairing gives the motorbike a aggressive look. Rear view mirrors are mounted on the fairings. Raised tail section and the underbelly exhaust also improves the sporty feel. The motorbike is offered in 3 color schemes namely lava red, apex black and acid gold. Other than lava red color option, other two's rims are painted red in color which suits the motorbike very much and I personally love apex black color option where the lava red gets a red colored rim only at the front.
Powering the motorbike is a 659cc, LC, parallel twin, DOHC motor which is capable of producing 100 HP at 10,500rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. The engine is synced to a 6 speed gearbox unit with quickshifter for both up and down. Front suspension is a USD unit from Kayaba where the rear end gets a monoshock hooked asymmetrically to a aluminum swingarm. Braking duties are handled by 320mm dual discs with a 4 piston Brembo radial calipers at the front and a 220mm disc with dual piston Brembo caliper at the rear.
Electronics includes ride by wire system, 6 axis Inertial Measurement Unit including traction control, wheelie control, cruise control and much more and also gets 5 riding modes which is also customizable. Another thing which I've noticed is there's a system to control the engine braking when rider closes the throttle. The motorbike is priced at Rs 13.09 lakh ex showroom which is way more costlier than its other rivals.
Tuono 660
The only thing which differentiate both the models is the design. RS660 is a fully faired motorbike where the Tuono 660 is semi faired. It gets a raised handlebar setup compared to that of the RS and this machine is also a iterated version of its bigger sibling Tuono V4. It gets a short wind visor and the front ends gets a three pod headlamp setup with the integrated LED DRLs and turn indicators. It features a well designed tank shrouds which also improves the aerodynamic efficiency.
Other than that, everything tends to continue the same including the hardware components like suspension, brakes, etc. The same 649cc parallel twin motor is also used here but the power factor varies. The same engine produces 94.89 HP at 10,500rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. The motorbike is offered in 3 color options including concept black, iridium grey and acid gold and the motorbike is priced at Rs 13,09,000 ex showroom.
RSV4
Finally, Aprilia has managed to update their big boys in our country. RSV4 is one of the toughest competitor for its other rivals and it is one of the most anticipated motorbike in our country. RS660's design is inspired from this model and in design wise, it somewhat looks the same. Fuel tank's and swingsarm's design is different here. Unlike the 660, the monoshock is mounted at the middle.
The motorbike is propelled by a 1099cc V4, LC, DOHC engine which churns out 217 HP at 13,000rpm and 125Nm of peak torque at 10,500rpm. Fuel tank's capacity is the massive 17.9L. It also gets a RAM air intake which helps very much at the top end. The engine is coupled to a 6 speed transmission system with quickshifter. Front end gets a electronically adjustable USD from Ohlins where the rear end has a Ohlins monoshock where the both are capable of adjusting for compression and rebound damping. Braking duties are handled by a dual 330mm discs with 4 piston radially mounted Brembo calipers at the front and a 220mm disc with 2 piston Brembo caliper at the rear.
Like its younger siblings, it is also loaded with electronics such as engine brake control, traction control, wheelie control, launch control and riding modes. Wheels are forged aluminum alloys with 5 spoke design. Manufacturer offers this motorbike in two color options such as lava red and aprilia black and it is priced at Rs 23,69,000 ex showroom.
Tuono V4
This one is also a semi faired version of the RS. Everything tends to continue the same including the engine. But like the Tuono 660, here also the power is dropped. The power produced here is 172.45 HP and the 125Nm of peak torque. The electronics are also retracted from the RS. This motorbike is offered only in 1 color option that is aprilia black. It is priced at Rs 20,66,000 ex showroom. RS is a perfect competitor for its rivals like S1000RR, ZX10R and the Panigale V4 while the Tuono stands down as a perfect competitor for Z H2 and the Streetfighter V4.
