E - vehicles are gaining up much heat & boosting up the transition rate and now Piaggio enters the game
In the ongoing electric transition, Piaggio has also managed to announce their product which is a electric scooter named 1. The scooter's overall design elements looks like a traditional Piaggio scooter and also containing the design elements of the same. But underneath the skin, the powertrain & other components are all new. The manufacturer claims that it have massive amount of legroom for comfy ride and they also mentioned that its going to come with large storage compartment.
It is mentioned that the scooter gets a removable battery option and a dedicated charging system. The scooter is offered in two variants namely Piaggio One & One Active. Model One is equipped with a motor which is capable of generating power up to1.2kW and propels the scooter up to a top speed about 44kmph. All together gives a range of coverage about 55 km per single charge. On the other hand, One Active is accompanied with a 2.6bhp motor which propels the scooter up to a top speed of 60kmph and provides a overall range of coverage per single charge about 66 km.
The option of removable batteries allows us to charge the batteries wherever we like to either in our house or in our office. But I surely don't know that the manufacturer will provide the option of swappable batteries. Recently, we've seen that the Swedish manufacturer Husqvarna is likely to provide a option of swappable batteries which get rids of the range anxiety. It'll be well and good if all the manufacturers implements the same by adding the battery swappable stations along with the charging stations.
Other than that, it gets a single sided linkage type hydraulic shock at the front and twin struts at the rear. Braking duties are handled by discs at both the ends. It also gets a Kinetic Energy Recovery System which is Piaggio's version of regenerative braking. It also comprises of 5.5" color display showing various info like battery level, range, speed etc... Two riding modes are provided which is Eco & Sport. This scooter suits very much well for city commuting and for short rides. If charging and battery swappable infrastructures are developed much, we can think about long highway rides. It is expected that the scooter will make its global debut within this year end and I think the scooter will also make its presence in our country at the upcoming years.
