Midrange & entry level sports machine offering from the Japanese manufacturer is back with a bang.. !!
To celebrate the 60 years of GP Racing, Yamaha has unveiled the 60th anniversary edition of the both R125 & R3 models along with some updates. As everyone expected, R3 is reappeared with the Euro-5 emission norms. No changes were made in mechanical wise except the transition of emission norms. Though it is now with the Euro-5 norms, soon we can expect this machine in our country as well. Yamaha has planned to give us the next gen R15 and the M variant of the same. The launch is about to happen very soon. After launching the updated models, we can also expect this R3 in our country. Now, let's jump into these machines.
YZF R3
As I said, no mechanical changes were implemented. Overall graphics and the emission norms were only new. 60th anniversary edition features a historic racing color scheme which remembers the design used on the race machine back in those days. Bodywork is full white in color where the manufacturer calls it as a speed block graphics which is present along side the fairings. It also gets golden treatment on the USD forks and the front fender is finished red in color. A typical Yamaha badged fuel tank along with the lowered clip-on gives the rider a position for improving the overall confidence and to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle. Both the wheels gets a golden treatment matching the front fork, gold Yamaha badge on the fuel tank and also a red stripe running all the way from tank to the tail.
Coming to the power source, it is a 321cc, twin cylinder, LC, DOHC motor churning out 42.0PS at 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm at 9,000rpm. Engine is coupled to a 6 speed transmission system with the slipper clutch assist. The manufacturer claims that the motorbike is fabricated with 50:50 front/rear weight distribution along with the accessible seat height which improves the riding experience of the motorbike by providing more confidence. Steering head is equipped with the 37mm Kayaba USD forks with damping & spring settings where the rear end gets a monoshock. Braking duties are handled by 298mm & 220mm discs at the front & rear respectively assisted by a ABS system.
YZF R125
Graphics of the motorbike is retained from the R3. Headlamp assembly remembers our country's spec R15 V3. It also gets a Variable Valve Actuation system for crispy throttle response at higher RPM bands. All other chassis components are fitted in the traditional DeltaBox frame or perimeter frame. Unlike the R3, it gets a 41mm USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Engine is a 124.7cc single cylinder, LC, SOHC motor spitting out 15PS at 10,000rpm and 11.5Nm at 8,000 rpm respectively. Engine is synced to a 6 speed transmission system also along with the slipper clutch assist. Front disc rotor's size here is 292mm where the rear is same as the R3.
As we all know, 125cc segment is picking up more heat in our market. If Yamaha launches the R125 in our country, surely it'll gain more attraction I'd say. As I said previously, after launching the updated version of the R15, we can expect the R3 to make its debut where its rival KTM 390RC already made its global debut.
