Motorbike maintenance tips for monsoon

• I always hate riding my motorbike at the rainy season because it never gave me a good feeling at least once a time. This is the season we have to take care of our bike very much and in this article we're going to see some tips about maintaining our motorbike during the rainy season.

• First and foremost thing which we have to do is to cover our motorcycle. Not only during the rainy time but all the time when not in use. We have to understand several things here. Unlike cars, motorbikes have several exposed components which should be protected from the water.

• For example, the whole frame of the motorbike acts as negative terminal or ground where several components like ignition coil and supplies for other electrical components are attached to it. If the mounting point of the ignition coil is rusted, it may affect the spark quality which directly affects the performance & mileage characteristics of the vehicle.

• If your motorbike comes with a straight or main stand, park it using that which is very much useful. Because I've seen many mechanics sharing their experience in which the rain water enters into the engine via air filter only because the bike is parked with a help of side stand. If your motorbike don't have a main stand, its good to go for the aftermarket paddock stand.

• If your bike comes with a mudguard and if you've removed it, make sure that you've installed it before taking the bike out for a spin. These mudguard helps somewhat in preventing the bike covered with mud & dust.

• Clean the chain regularly during the rainy season. Most of the motorbike now a days doesn't come with a chain guard and the rear sprocket & chain is barely exposed to the mud & dust. Due to the presence of oil in the chain, it'll attract dust & mud normally and more during the rainy season. If you fails to notice this, then the whole lot of dust & mud will be attracted and settles up near the gearbox sprocket which might end up in damaging the sprocket's oil seal.

• Not only engine but our motorbike's braking system plays an important role. Before taking out for a spin, check whether all the components in the system are working fine and clean the disc just once before rolling. Make sure that the wheel speed sensor is not covered with mud which plays an important role in the function of ABS.

• If you have to ride your motorbike in the rain, make sure that you're applying the brakes effectively even though it have a ABS function and don't over speed. Even though we're riding safely, tires won't always provide good grip at all situations. Once if you reached home, don't forget to wipe your motorbike with a piece of cloth from the body, wheels and frame.
