Yamaha XSR900 updated for 2022

• After launching the fully overhauled MT-09 a year ago, Yamaha has introduced the all new updated XSR900, a retro model which is heavily based on the naked street fighter MT-09. Its a good move for the manufacturer and it looks great both in terms of appearance and technology.

• The motorbike is introduced for the European markets and the design elements of the motorbike remembers something from the 80s. It contains a round shaped LED headlamp, raised rear end, minimal bodyworks, retro styled fuel tank, raised handle and the exhaust gets a underbelly treatment.

• For me, the headlamp looks small which looks awkward. But, the rear end is fabricated in such a way that the lines are matching perfectly with the fuel tank which looks cool.

• As we all know, this model is based on the MT platform and also shares its components with the same. The motor is a new 889cc, inline 3 cylinder unit instead of the previous 846cc unit, producing 119PS & 93Nm at 10,000 & 7,000rpm. It is merged to a 6 speed gearbox with assist & slipper clutch.

• Other than the engine, the cast alloy deltabox frame and spin-forged wheels are also borrowed from its naked sibling MT-09. Swingarm's length have been increased by 55mm for more stability. While sharper handling can't be achieved with longer wheelbase, it is expected that the bike can take the turnings quicker compared to that of its predecessor.

• Present above the swingarm is a new sub-frame which is specifically designed for this model to incorporate the Cafe Racer styled humped rear seat. The frame is suspended with a help of fully adjustable KYB gold finished USD forks at the front and linkage type monoshock at the rear.

• Braking duties are handled by dual 298mm disc rotors with Brembo radial calipers & master cylinder at the front and 245mm disc rotor at the rear. 6 axis IMU allows the use of cornering ABS, traction control, slide control, 4 riding modes, cruise control and anti wheelie control. Bi-directional quickshifter also comes as part of the plan.

• 3.5" TFT display sits above the upper triple tree. Fuel tank capacity comes about 14L and the bike weighs 193kg wet. With a range of accessories including a fly screen and Akrapovic exhaust, it is expected that the motorbike will hit the dealerships by February 2022 while its not sure that whether this model will make its presence in our country.
