• BSA Motorcycles has unveiled the Gold Star 650, a much loved retro machine from the past. The bike maker has unveiled the model at Motorcycle Live Show in Birmingham, UK. For retro and old school lovers, this machine is a pure treasure and it grabbed my eyeballs like anything.
• This model purely resembles the vintage look and design staying true to the company's heritage. It gets a teardrop shaped fuel tank, single piece seat, minimalistic bodyworks, old school type front & rear fenders, round shaped headlamp unit with a halogen bulb, round shaped turn winkers and rear view mirrors. Their BSA Guns badge on the engine block also looks cool.
• Tail lamp is a LED unit and above the steering head there's a twin pod analog instrumentations. Both the analog units are for speedometer and tachometer and they're positioned in such a way which remembers something of the past. There's also a small LCD multifunction display on both the sides for others like trip meters and clock.
• Everything is finished in chrome here which gives a nice touch including the wired spoke rims, fuel tank, headlamp bezel, exhaust, rear view mirrors, fenders, throttle body cover and left side of the crankcase. In the name of retro motorbikes, many manufacturers gives the bike a modern treatment like blacked out parts, LED lightings, etc... But this one stands out of the crowd which stays true to the word vintage and retro.
• For this retro roadster, Classic Legends has developed a big single cylinder 652cc, 4 valve, LC, double cam, twin spark motor for spitting out 45hp & 55Nm of peak power & torque at 6,000 & 4,000rpm respectively. Torque starts to kick in hard from 1,800rpm itself, delivering a smooth flow throughout the RPM band which gives all the adrenaline required for banging at lower speeds.
• It is paired to a 5 speed gearbox with slipper clutch assist. All other chassis components including the engine is mounted on a tubular steel double cradle frame. It is suspended using 41mm telescopic forks at the front and twin struts at the rear. Anchoring duties are handled by 320mm disc upfront and 255mm disc at the rear clamped by 2 piston and single piston calipers at the front & rear from Brembo assisted by dual channel ABS system.
• Front & back is equipped with wired spoke units 18"/17" and wrapped with Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp rubbers. Fuel tank's capacity is 12L and all together weighs the motorbike about 213kg. Handlebar is equipped with a USB charging socket.
• There's no modern electronics such as traction control, riding modes, cruise control etc.. Its just a matter of enjoying the motorbike at minimal speeds. It compete against other models in the segment such as 650 Twins and Z650RS.
• As the motorbike is unveiled now at the UK, it's not sure whether the BSA brand will enter our country. Few months back, the motorbike is spied testing on the Indian roads but the chances are less for the product to make its presence in our country.
