The new retro racer is now capable of squeezing out more ponies
Continental GT from the Royal Enfield is my favorite & dream motorbike of all time especially the GT250 from the mid 60s. The manufacturer have tried to maintain the Cafe Racer elements and also succeeded in the same. From every angle we can able to see a perfect Cafe Racer motorbike both in terms of aesthetics & power. Now, the UK based manufacturer has announced a Continental GT Cup 2021 and the registrations for the same were also opened on the official website.
This initiative by the company is aimed to attract young budding enthusiast & experienced riders to access racing circuits. RE has hooked up with JK Motorsports to organize the first season of the GT Cup in our country and scheduled for October 2021. Interested can register in the official website which closes on September 30. After registrations, riders will be called for the selection program by paying some amount of fee. After testing their skills, shortlisted participants can participate on the 4 rounds also by paying some amount. The company is also having a idea of opening new track riding schools in our country in order to provide professional training to the riders & budding enthusiasts out there.
Now, let's hop on to the motorbike. With the addition of new race fairings, the motorbike gets a perfect retro racer look which purely remembers the 60s. The semi fairing is also perfectly designed to improve the aerodynamic efficiency & provides the rider a clean visibility and the fairing is made up of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP). Stock twin exhaust has been replaced by the purposely designed & built SS exhaust system which reduces the overall weight and allows the motorbike to lean more at corners. Though we don't have any info about the output power, the manufacturer claims that the output power has been improved by 12%. But according to some sources, the output power lies somewhere around 53PS where there's some bump in the power output for sure.
Conventional Clip-ons has been replaced with the help of lowered set of clip-ons which is also lighter. Clearly we can able to see that the clip-ons are mounted below the upper triple tree. This also helps the rider to form a tuck in position for creating a perfect air flow. Race bikes should have stiffer suspension setup for best performance. Here, the front forks has been re-valved for rebound damping and stiffer compression. Rear end gets shocks from Gabriel which is also stiffer thereby increasing rider's confidence at higher speeds. Foot pegs has been replaced with the new rear set pegs for providing better riding posture. Rubbers are from JK Tyres which improves the feel & feed back of the machine even more. All together helps the motorbike to shed 24kg which helps to make it even more faster. The manufacturer hasn't mentioned about the engine tuning and about braking hardware. Though the power has been increased, surely the motorbike needs better braking components. Will update the same if I get a info on them. The new belly pan is also added which looks cool and also helps in reducing the drag force.
In my point of view, some of the parts such as retro styled semi Cafe Racer fairing, lowered clip-ons should also be added as an accessory of the road legal version which improves the value of the motorbike even more. I've dreamed about a machine with similar kind of looks and its very much exciting to see a machine with even more retro look. I'd say this is a great step took by the manufacturer and I wish them to develop even more by providing proper training on the racing line.
