Raider 125 from TVS breaks cover.!! Stands down as a best competitor for its other rivals in the growing 125cc platform.
By concerning the hike in petrol prices day by day, youngsters are preferring motorbikes with good fuel consumption along with the decent performance characteristics these days. Motorcycles coming under the 125-180cc segment fulfill the above mentioned needs where the Bajaj Auto also managed to launch the NS125 which satisfied the youngsters all in terms of performance, economy & aesthetics. Few days before, TVS had teased a motorbike with a hash tag "#TheWickedRide" and it made us believe that the upcoming motorbike is going to be named as Fiero 125. But, the letter R is stressed more, which made us to think. Now, TVS has launched the all new Raider 125 which made its entry to the 125cc platform to dominate the segment by its attractive tech & specs.
The motorbike is all new in terms of every aspect. I'd say, TVS has launched this motorbike in the right time to attract more customers towards it and this motorbike comes under the entry level commuter segment. It is offered in two variants that is drum & disc. Drum variant starts at Rs 77,500 and the disc variant about Rs 85,469 ex-showroom Delhi. I think the overall on-road price comes somewhere between Rs 90,000 - 1,00,000.
The overall design elements of the motorbike looks different than that of the any other existing TVS motorcycles. Anyways... The overall headlamp assembly slightly looks derived from the Apache series. The X shaped DRL suits for the name wicked surrounded by the 3 main beam setup. The beam also looks strong. The muscular looking fuel tank along with the split seat setup and the chunky grab rail looks stunning. TVS badging on the tank shrouds along with the 3D Raider badging on the side panels gives the minimalistic look and improves the overall aesthetic value of the motorbike. It also gets a sleek looking engine cowl. The real tail lamp tends to use the LED but the turn indicators are all halogen.
Even though it is a 125cc motorbike, it never fails to look sporty from every aspects. Coming to the engine, it is a 124.8cc, air cooled, 3 valve unit churning out 11.4hp & 11.2Nm of torque at 7,500 & 6,000rpm respectively and the engine is coupled to a 5 speed transmission system. The performance numbers are also somewhat highest in the segment. The engine is fitted in a single cradle frame remembering the Apaches. Front end gets a conventional telescopic forks where the rear is equipped with a gas charged monoshock with 5 step preload adjustable. Braking duties are handled by the 240mm disc or 130mm drum at the front and a 130mm drum unit at the rear, assisted by the Combi Brake System or Integrated Braking System. 17" 6 spoke alloy units at both the front & rear are fitted with the TVS Remora Tyres.
It features a new 5" LCD instrument cluster displaying various info like average range, gear position, mode indicator, tachometer, speedometer, trip meters, odometer, top & average speed indicator, side stand notification, clock and so on. It also gets a TVS IntelliGo (like idle start/stop system) and two different riding modes. One is eco and the other one is power. Eco mode limits the engine to 7000rpm where the throttle response also becomes dull. This mode is purely concentrated on obtaining the maximum mileage and there's no restriction at the power mode. The modes can be toggled easily through the switch control present on the right side where usually the engine kill switch will be present. It do get a USB charging socket, side stand engine cut-off, silent start feature and misses out a kick starter.
The manufacturer also mentioned that they'll launch the another variant of the motorbike with TVS SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity feature along with voice assistance. Though the prices of these variants are not out yet, we can expect these modules to be fitted on the motorbike after few months. I think the manufacturer will introduce the connected variant along only with disc option. There is also a storage space under the pillion seat which is nice touch indeed. The seat height comes with 780mm and the fuel tank can hold up to 10litres. Manufacturer claims a mileage about 67kmpl and we can expect around 60kmpl at the city riding conditions. All together weighs the motorbike just about 123kg and offered in 4 color options that is red, yellow, black and blue.
TVS has made a great move by launching the perfect motorbike at the perfect time along with the reasonable pricing & features I'd say. Will try to share my first ride impression as soon as after getting a chance.
So stay tuned..!!
