Royal Enfield is testing multiple motorcycles for the very long time such as a cruiser model Shotgun 650, a Scrambler model Hunter 350 and the road version of the Himalayan. Now, the motorbike which we expected to be called as the Shotgun 650, a parallel twin equipped cruiser based motorbike is about to make its presence at the upcoming EICMA 2021 show which is about to happen at the end of November 2021.
As per the new details, the motorbike is likely to be called as the Super Meteor as we believed it to be called as the Shotgun 650. Royal Enfield made this Super Meteor, exporting it to the US markets between 1952 and 1962. After that, it has been replaced by the 736cc Interceptor. Old Super Meteor incorporated a parallel twin, 692cc, OHC motor, linked to a 4 speed gearbox and capable of doing a Ton, that is 100mph.
Now the brand is about to reintroduce the Super Meteor by utilising the existing 650cc parallel twin and for sure, it'll become a costliest offering from the British manufacturer. We got a chance to witness the motorbike in the form of development mule and spied testing multiple times out there on the freeways. For me, it looks like a Meteor 350 which is on steroids. It is fabricated with the round shaped headlamp with chrome bezel, round turn indicators & rear view mirrors, tear drop shaped fuel tank and double sided chrome exhast.
With the help of spy pictures, we can also able to witness some of the hardware components. Front end is equipped with USD forks where the rear has got twin struts. The frame looks similar to the one used on the Meteor 350 and so the other design elements including the rims. Wider & raised handlebar setup along with the front foot pegs gives the rider a comfortable ergonomics with relaxed riding posture. I don't know why the manufacturer ditched the wired spoke rims with the help of alloys which would've even more improved the retro cruiser feel.
Anyways, as we know, the engine will be a 650cc, air + oil cooled, parallel twin, SOHC, 6 speed motor churning out 47bhp & 52Nm. We can also expect the manufacturer to remap the ECU for cruising comfortably at higher speeds or for relaxing at lower speeds. Can't wait to see peoples who'll replace the stock exhaust with the help of Red Rooster pair as soon as buying the motorbike.. 🤣
